Text Box: You may remember that we helped out Laura Gomersall with some research on the relationship between Coaches, Parents and Gymnasts earlier in the year. Laura has completed her work and I had the following Email from her this month. I know the questions were searching but she is grateful for your help.

“The main aim of the study was to examine the associations between gymnasts' perceptions of their relationship with coach, perceptions of their relationship with one of their parents, and experiences of self-concept.

Overall, the results showed:

1) Some support for the hypothesis that the coach-athlete relationship would be more positive in the older group than the younger group.
2) More support for the second hypothesis that the parent-athlete relationship would be more positive in the younger group than the older group.
3) The younger groups' experiences of self-concept were not affected significantly by either their coach-athlete or parent-athlete relationship.
4) The older groups' experiences of self-concept were found to be affected more by their perceptions of the coach-athlete relationship than their perceptions of the parent-athlete relationship.

However, this is a relatively new area of study and if similar research was carried out in the future it may be helpful to consider the differences between males and females and also different levels of participation.
Trampolining was used in this study as a type of gymnastics, but it may be better to consider this as a completely different sport to gymnastics in future research.

Thank you very much for all your's and your gymnasts' help with this study. I am very grateful as without you all it would not have been possible”
Text Box: This is developing so keep an eye on the notice boards. Some of you may remember Pat Bailey from the Sports Development Team who came to the gym one Thursday to talk about a gymnastics event. I’ll remember it as Pat is a wheelchair user and couldn’t get into the gym. The new one will definitely have level access. The idea was that we would try to put on some gym event in August and Pat phone to say there was a day in Torkington Park on 1st August and could we help.
We will and it will be based on some coaching for anyone who passes by and displays of some sort by our gymnasts. Sports Development will transport kit and all I need is some gymnasts to help with doing some tumbling, floor routines etc.
More details on the notice board this weekend.
Text Box: Remember we nearly did a display at Lower Park School in June? We were short of a floor display so we dusted off Vogue and in practice it didn’t look too bad.
This is a picture taken in 1990 at the Phil Tighe Competition when clubs were invited to do a display and guess what? They are doing Vogue!
This picture was sent to us by Sarah Crosthwaite and she has identified the gymnasts as: Bryony Sadler, Jenny Palmer, Sarah Crosthwaite, Ellen Worthington, Alice Worthington, Claire Simms, Sam Hill and Claire Wilson.
Text Box: The Race for Life finally happened after being cancelled because of the rain. Many parents and gymnasts took part, so please sponsor them if you forgot to do so before the event. Well done to all who finished, especially those who managed to post better Text Box: times than their offspring. I’m not allowed to mention names!
Website has a lot of new pages and updates. Vicki is at home for the hols and bored so has kept herself busy putting in competition results from way back. Have a look.
