The annual British Gymnastics membership is due on the 1st October. Please pay your fees to Helen before the date to make sure you are fully covered. You will not be allowed to train if the fees have not been paid by 12th October.

The fees this year for Club Competitive Associate Member is £25  and for Club Associate Member is £17.

The way that it works is

that to take part in the Grades competitions and higher you must be a Competitive member and you will need to pay £25. If you take part only in 2 piece competitions, then the £17 membership applies.

The benefits of membership are as per the tables below.

Ask if you are not sure what level of fees you need to pay. Your coach will know.

Welcome to all of our new trialists. What’s it all about? What do I need to do? I want to know more!

The following is an extract from our 2006/7 Year Book, available for download on the internet.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics

The SSoG Club Squad is focused on competing in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG). WAG is a sport that involves performing gymnastic routines on four pieces of apparatus: vault, asymmetric bars, balance beam and floor. The routines are judged and scores are awarded for gymnastic and artistic merit.

Recreational to Club Progression

Participation in competitive Club gymnastics at SSoG is by individual invitation. Initially girls from either Dialstone or other local recreational schemes are invited to take part in an 8-10 week evaluation period on Saturday afternoons.

Those girls showing the required aptitude and attitude are asked to continue on Saturday afternoons and in due course the gymnasts move to Stage 2 and train on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Able transitional gymnasts are ultimately invited to become full Club gymnasts. The transitional period is dependant on the individual gymnast’s rate of progression but would typically last 18-24 months.

If the gymnast is judged by the coaches not to be suited to the additional training required to become a full member of the Club, then

they will return to their recreational classes or to the local club that they came from.

Attire

Gymnasts must always train in suitable one-piece gymnastic leotards with long hair securely tied back. During warm-up tracksuits or sweatshirt tops can also be worn, but jeans or tight fitting trousers are not allowed. Tight fitting shorts (“cycle shorts”) can be worn during training but not in competition. Wearing of jewellery at any time during training or competition is not permitted; doing so will invalidate BGA personnel accident insurance.

Training Times

The sessions on Saturday are from 1.00 to 4.30. They start with conditioning and then move onto pieces. Gymnasts should bring plenty of drink so that they do not get dehydrated.

Competition

Our aim is for gymnasts to represent the club in the Greater Manchester Grades Competition, held in February each year. Grade 6 is for girls ages 8 and over and any potential club member must be of sufficient standard to enter. Just Saturday afternoon training will not be sufficient to achieve a good score, hence we would progress gymnasts to train on Sundays as soon as we are sure.

More Information

In the early days all questions should be directed to Sarah Johnson. In addition the Head Coach Phil Richardson is also very approachable.

The last dance session on Saturday morning with Vicki will be on the 15th September. She returns to University and will be back at Christmas.

Hot off the press. Stockport are starting to get their act together on twinning exchanges with Heilbronn. We last hosted their gym club in 1997 so watch this space.
